#64 Gunther’s Mission

[Verse]

Good evening, Officer Lane.

The situation is critical.

Your radio is dead. Sixty miles of mountain between you and any signal.

Crazy Willie has you pinned and bleeding.

But one asset remains…

The puppy.

Your mission: Get that wire. Make the call.

This message will self-destruct in five seconds.

Good luck, Clint.

[Verse]

Crazy Willie’s bullets tear the night in two

Radio’s silent, nothing’s getting through

Sixty miles of rock and pine between you and the tower

Officer down, clock ticking, running out of hours

Gunther pressed against your leg, the Rottweiler pup

“Stay down, good boy” — but you know what’s coming up

Eyes lock on the spool, copper wire so small

Might just save your life if you risk it all

[Pre-chorus]

Key the mic again — only silence screams back

Heart hammering harder than the rounds in the black

No choice left but the dog — you hate to send him out

But the firefight’s raging and the window’s closing now

[Chorus]

Run, Gunther, run! Through the hail of lead

Snatch that spool of wire, use your Rottweiler speed

Willie fires once — the round kicks up the dirt

You grab it in your teeth and drop it where it hurts!

Good boy! Good boy! The mission’s underway

Unspool that lifeline, now it’s time to play

Swing the cuffs up high, catch the branch up there

Splice it to the antenna — get the signal in the air!

[Verse]

Working fast in the dirt, strip the insulation bare

Twist the wire to the radio, handcuffs dangling in the air

Twenty-five feet up, the cuffs catch and hold

Now the signal’s got a chance — worth more than gold

Key the mic, voice tight, steady, clear and cold

“443T to dispatcher — emergency traffic, copy?”

Static hisses… then a voice breaks through the storm

“Dispatcher to calling unit — report your situation, over”

[Bridge]

“Dispatcher, this is Lane at Pantak’s Kennel, sixty miles west

In a firefight with bank robbery suspects — officer down, send backup — now, do your best!”

A pause that lasts forever… then the words that break the night

“10-4, 443T… Help is rolling. Hold tight.”

[Chorus]

Run, Gunther, run! You made the impossible real

Faced the flying bullets, brought the wire with zeal

Built the makeshift lifeline, called the cavalry in

Gunther the hero pup — where the mission begins!

Good boy! Good boy! Ears forward, eyes on the prize

Pressed against the good leg under mountain skies

Help is coming now, but ’til the sirens break the door

You were never alone — Gunther, the Rottweiler corps!Help is rolling…

Still very much alone…

But the signal’s out…

Good boy, Gunther.

Mission accomplished..
